Forestry Research Assistant

We are seeking an undergraduate intern to join our team at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia. The successful candidate will assist researchers involved in the PERSEUS project, which aims to provide scientifically sound information, outreach, and educational opportunities for data-driven, AI-supported forest management systems.
About the PERSEUS ProjectThe PERSEUS project focuses on four major task areas: Measurement, Modeling, Management (extension), and Mindset (education). As an intern, you will initially interact with investigators in the Measurement task area, assisting with one or more individual efforts related to this area. Your specific focus of work will be structured to align with the project's goals.
Responsibilities- Assist with individual research efforts related to the Measurement task area.
- Contribute to the development of an integrated AI-assisted eForester smartphone app for inventories of major tree species in the eastern United States.
- Participate in local and remote meetings, providing updates and feedback on the work conducted.
- Contribute to the development of presentations, reports, papers, or other outcomes of the project.
We are looking for an undergraduate student actively seeking a bachelor's degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental resource management, or a closely related major that emphasizes dendrology. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to effectively interact with research groups in person and remotely, and an interest in forest management and inventory.
