Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior or Staff level Backend Engineer dedicated to developing systems and infrastructure that support innovative multimodal interfaces for artificial intelligence.
This position is crucial in transforming user interaction with AI on our platform, enabling natural communication through speech, gestures, and other intuitive methods.
As a key member of our collaborative team comprising engineers, designers, and machine learning experts, you will significantly contribute by conceptualizing, architecting, designing, and deploying backend systems that facilitate these advanced experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage in projects such as:
- Creating a low-latency audio streaming backend for real-time human interactions.
- Developing a scalable video ingestion and storage system to enable Characters to perceive their environment.
- Building a generative video live-streaming platform.
- Managing, scaling, and automating large-scale deployments of streaming infrastructure ensuring high availability.
Required Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience with audio and video streaming technologies (e.g., WebRTC, media servers).
- At least 5 years of experience in building and scaling backend systems for rapidly growing consumer applications.
- Expertise in writing high-performance services, with strong proficiency in Golang and/or Python.
- Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining microservices that form complex, scalable backend architectures.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (like Docker) and orchestration tools (such as Kubernetes).
- Extensive knowledge of various database technologies, including relational (like PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB).
- Proficiency in database design, sharding, replication, and performance tuning for high-traffic environments.
- Experience with caching mechanisms (like Redis, Memcached) to improve application performance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a talent for identifying and resolving bottlenecks to ensure optimal backend performance under varying loads.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to conceive, design, and implement new features that enhance user experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- A B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Compensation:
The estimated base salary ranges from $150K to $350K, complemented by equity options and comprehensive health coverage for you and your family.
