Overview:

Postpartum Care Nurses play a crucial role in supporting new mothers by addressing their physical and emotional needs during the recovery phase after childbirth, within a clinical environment.

They assist in the recovery process following delivery and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure that both mother and infant receive optimal care tailored to their specific needs.

This role encompasses both direct infant care and maternal education, with supervision from the Unit Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
Postpartum Care Nurses deliver personalized nursing care to patients, grounded in established nursing principles.

Beyond standard nursing duties, their responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Consulting and collaborating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care plans for both mother and infant.
  • Maintaining a safe, comfortable, and hygienic environment for both mother and child.
  • Assisting mothers with personal hygiene needs.
  • Monitoring for any postpartum complications, including bleeding.
  • Assessing the mother's abdominal recovery and pain levels.
  • Conducting emotional assessments to identify signs of postpartum depression.
  • Observing and facilitating bonding between mother and infant.
  • Taking vital signs for both mother and infant.
  • Tracking intake and output for both mother and infant.
  • Monitoring for adverse reactions to treatments or medications.
  • Providing guidance on breastfeeding techniques.
  • Educating mothers on infant bathing and diapering.
  • Weighing the infant and performing necessary blood glucose checks.
  • Documenting all care provided accurately and promptly in the appropriate formats.
  • Flexibly working across various areas of the unit, including Ante Partum and Delivery.


Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Possession of a current nursing license in good standing.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in the Mother/Baby specialty.
  • Current certifications in AHA BLS, ACLS, and NRP are required.
