Job Summary

As a Building Inspector with the City of Kirkland, WA, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. This position requires a strong understanding of construction techniques, building codes, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect Buildings and Structures: Conduct thorough inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with approved plans, codes, and regulations.
  • Enforce Code Compliance: Investigate complaints and enforce code compliance, mediating resolutions as necessary.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: Offer technical advice and guidance to builders, architects, and engineers on code compliance and construction techniques.
  • Maintain Records: Accurately record and maintain inspection reports, ensuring proper documentation of inspections.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with builders, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve code compliance issues and ensure smooth project execution.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, and three years of construction or inspection experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications: Valid Washington State Driver's License and International Code Council (ICC) Commercial Building Inspector Certification within one year of hire.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and construction techniques; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
