About the Role

An ICU Step Down Nurse, also known as a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nurse, plays a critical role in continuing the healing mission of Deaconess. This individual provides care to patients who are transitioning from intensive care to a less intensive environment.

The responsibilities of this position include monitoring patients' vital signs, administering medications, and coordinating with physicians to adjust treatment plans. They must manage complex medical equipment, respond to emergencies, and offer patient and family education.

This role requires strong critical thinking skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team.

Requirements

  • License to practice in the State of Illinois
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) or Red Cross BLS certification required upon hire
  • Current AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Red Cross ALS certification required within 30 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one-year previous experience in a clinical unit
