Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Control Officer to join our team at DeKalb County. As a key member of our public safety team, you will be responsible for enforcing animal-related laws and regulations, providing exceptional customer service, and working collaboratively with other departments to ensure the well-being of animals and the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce federal, state, and local codes and ordinances related to animal activities
  • Investigate complaints and reports of animal bites, cruelty, abuse, and neglect
  • Patrol the county to locate and assist stray, injured, and/or sick animals
  • Assist veterinary staff with animal examinations and provide documentation for reported animal bites
  • Provide customer service and respond to inquiries from animal bite victims, veterinarians, and other stakeholders
  • Issue warnings and citations to animal owners found in violation of animal regulations
  • Coordinate trap requests and deliveries with residents
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Two years of experience equivalent to Senior Animal Control Officer
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment, interacting with the public, and handling emergency situations. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
