JOB SUMMARY

The Staff Pharmacist II at North Mississippi Health Services plays a vital role in delivering clinical care, education, operational support, research, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. This position is responsible for facilitating patient care across diverse healthcare environments, providing medication education, engaging in research activities, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Duties:

* Collaborates with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care across various settings.

* Acts as a resource for pharmacy staff and other healthcare team members.

* Assists in the development and coordination of clinical pharmacy services.

* Participates in the training and education of pharmacy personnel.

* Monitors and optimizes drug therapy for specific patient populations.

* Develops comprehensive care plans that incorporate medications, devices, and delivery methods.

Educational Responsibilities:

* Provides education on pharmacotherapy.

* Supports initiatives that address the educational needs of pharmacy and healthcare professionals.

* Establishes training objectives for students and residents.

* Delivers medication education to patients and their families, as well as the community.

* Engages in educational programs focused on disease prevention and health promotion.

* Participates in performance improvement initiatives within the department.

* Maintains required Continuing Education (CE) hours.

Operational Duties:

* Aids in the prevention and resolution of medication misuse.

* Possesses knowledge of pharmacy and medical claims systems.

* Understands the operations of retail and outpatient pharmacy settings.

* Familiar with billing and reimbursement processes (ICD-9/HCPC/CPT Coding, OPPS reimbursement, Medicare, etc.).

* Verifies patient insurance benefits and precertifications for third-party payers.

Financial Responsibilities:

* Evaluates and compares drug therapy treatment options in designated practice areas.

* Assists in maintaining departmental budget compliance.

* Contributes to the ongoing revision of the system-wide formulary.

Reporting and Recordkeeping:

* Maintains accurate records of service activities and outcomes for designated areas.

* Provides timely and accurate reporting.

Research Activities:

* Coordinates and participates in pharmacological research and development in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Regulatory Compliance:

* Ensures adherence to accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety standards.

* Complies with NMHS/NMMC Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

**Required:**

- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy

**Preferred:**

- Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD)

Licenses and Certifications:

**Required:**

- Licensed as a Pharmacist by the State Board of Pharmacy based on facility location

Work Experience:

**Required:**

- 4-6 years in a comparable health system pharmacy

- Completion of American Society of Health Systems Pharmacy Residency (ASHP) or 3 years of clinical practice experience

- 3 years of operational experience

- Previous patient care experience with demonstrated proficiency in clinical areas

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Proficiency in multiple clinical or operational areas

- Knowledge across broad or specialized populations

- Ability to interact with patients of all ages

- Awareness of current pharmacotherapy literature
