Industrial Battery Maintenance Specialist

The primary objective of this role is to oversee and manage a client's battery and charger inventory utilizing the maintenance services program offered by Industrial Battery Products. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong willingness to engage in the Technician Certification Program, aimed at enhancing their technical skills and knowledge for career advancement within the service division.
This position is open to individuals with varying levels of experience in battery maintenance and repair. Those without prior experience will begin as a Technician Trainee, receiving comprehensive training, assessments, and hands-on experience to progress in their career. Conversely, candidates with existing expertise may advance through the certification process at an accelerated pace, based on their proficiency.
CLASSIFICATION:
- Non-exempt, hourly role
- Full-time
- Day shift
- Occasional overtime and travel required
- Reports directly to the Service/Branch Manager
- Assess industrial batteries using a hydrometer and voltmeter
- Inspect industrial chargers with an amp probe and voltmeter
- Conduct scheduled maintenance and repairs on batteries and chargers, utilizing tools such as gas torches, pressure washers, air compressors, generators, drills, hot plates, and other necessary supplies
- Replace industrial batteries in customer lift trucks through side and overhead extraction methods
- Participate in regular safety training to maintain awareness of safe practices and environments
- Adhere to all safety protocols outlined by Industrial Battery Products
- Report any unsafe conditions or actions to the supervisor
- Maintain an adequate inventory of parts in the service vehicle
- Drive to customer locations in a fully equipped company vehicle, with occasional use of a large box truck requiring a Class B CDL with Hazmat and Air-Brakes endorsements
- Occasional overnight travel may be necessary
Required:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possession of a Class B CDL with Air-Brakes and Hazmat endorsement
- If not held at the time of hire, the candidate will have the opportunity to obtain the license within a specified timeframe
- Must maintain an excellent motor vehicle record to qualify for insurance by Industrial Battery Products
- Ability to consent to and pass a background check prior to employment, including criminal, credit, and motor vehicle checks (state dependent)
- Willingness to consent to and pass a drug screening prior to employment
- Agreement to undergo random drug and alcohol screenings as a CDL driver
- Annual Lead and Zinc screenings in accordance with OSHA guidelines
- Associate's or Technical Degree/Training
- Knowledge/Training in AC & DC Electrical systems
- Experience with gas torches, voltmeters, hydrometers, and amp probes
- Forklift certification
- Familiarity with the geographical area
- Understanding of Lift Truck Dealer territories and major end users
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds from a standing position
- Capability to maneuver a battery transfer cart weighing up to 2000 pounds
- Must be able to stand and work for up to four hours without a break
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, subject to temperature variations and other conditions typical of warehouse operations. Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided based on location-specific requirements.
