We are seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our team at the City of Encinitas, CA. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing various City buildings and facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a variety of manual, semi-skilled, and skilled duties related to the maintenance and repair of City buildings and facilities, including plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry work.
- Operate a variety of tools and equipment necessary to perform tasks assigned, including light power-driven equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
- Work under general supervision and coordinate with supervisors to coordinate more technical repairs with licensed contractors.
- Respond to emergency maintenance or repair calls and perform duties in a manner to maximize public safety.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) plus two years' experience in a wide variety of construction trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- California Driver's License.
This is a part-time, temporary position with a work schedule that may vary, including working weekends and nights. Incumbents work less than 500 hours a fiscal year at approximately 10 hours a week.
Knowledge and Skills- Knowledge of electrical, carpentry, building maintenance practices, heating and air conditioning systems, painting techniques, and operational characteristics of various maintenance equipment and tools.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor with agility and endurance, operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner, and troubleshoot mechanical problems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply a wide variety of technical information from manuals, drawings, specifications, layouts, blueprints, and schematics.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
