We are seeking a seasoned Tax Director with expertise in State and Local Tax (SALT) to join our Corporate Transformation Tax team at Alvarez & Marsal. As a trusted tax and business advisor, you will play a key role in providing state and local tax consulting services to our clients.
Key Responsibilities- Utilize technical skills to assist clients with state and local tax consulting engagements, including structuring, audit defense, and bankruptcy-related matters.
- Research technical issues, draft memoranda, and prepare Excel models.
- Manage client engagements, including budgets, staffing, project workflow, and billing.
- Supervise Associates and Senior Associates and provide on-the-job training.
- Build and maintain lasting client and team relationships.
- Lead preparation, detailed discussion, and follow-through in client and internal stakeholder meetings.
- Manage risk, resources, staffing, and financial performance for multiple engagements at once, including billing, collections, and project budgets.
- Lead client calls to understand critical areas of importance and apply tax technical knowledge to specific client situations.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and clearly communicate work plan, project objectives, and timelines.
- Build client relationships and demonstrate a working knowledge of client businesses.
- Supervise, develop, mentor, and motivate our Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers by actively participating in their advancement through on-the-job training, providing performance feedback, counseling, and fostering our team-based atmosphere.
- Manage workload and deadlines for Associates, Senior Associates, and Managers with a focus on quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the project team.
- Demonstrate commitment and desired behaviors while working with others who have diverse experiences, skills, and perspectives.
- Conduct day-to-day management of accounts to ensure delivery of timely and accurate work product.
- Regularly support business development efforts, identifying opportunities for add-on work, thought leadership, new client pitches, and optimizing the compliance process.
We are looking for a licensed CPA or attorney with 6+ years of tax consulting experience and 5+ years of State and Local Tax experience, specifically in Income/Franchise. You should have intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office products skills, with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint. You will have demonstrated success as a trusted tax and business advisor, building relationships, identifying and addressing client needs, and delivering high-quality deliverables.
What We OfferAs a Tax Director at Alvarez & Marsal, you will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals who are passionate about delivering exceptional results for our clients. We offer a competitive salary range of $130,000 - $175,000 annually, dependent on several variables, including education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, we offer a discretionary bonus program based on individual and firm performance.
