POSITION SUMMARY:

We are on the lookout for a talented and experienced Backend Java Engineer to become a part of our shared platform team. The selected individual will concentrate on developing, refining, and sustaining essential libraries, services, and functionalities utilized across various products. This position is essential for facilitating product development teams and necessitates a profound understanding of Java, Redis, PostgreSQL, and other backend technologies. The ideal candidate will possess a track record of creating high-performance, high-availability software for critical production systems, with a strong emphasis on API-driven solutions and database interactions. Familiarity with containerized applications and observability practices is highly advantageous. The role also encompasses the learning and modernization of existing Java-based platform services over time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and enhance shared libraries, services, and functionalities in Java to support various product development teams.
  • Maintain and optimize existing codebases, ensuring superior performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Implement and manage data storage solutions utilizing Redis and PostgreSQL, focusing on performance and scalability.
  • Develop and sustain REST API-driven solutions, emphasizing API-driven database access and integrating with OAuth-based APIs for secure token management.
  • Utilize streaming technologies and Spring libraries to augment application functionalities and performance.
  • Apply observability techniques, including efficient logging, telemetry, metrics, and health checks, to ensure the robustness and operability of the platform.
  • Engage with container-based applications and components, contributing to development and deployment processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to comprehend requirements, provide technical insights, and implement scalable solutions.
  • Participate in the gradual modernization of existing Java-based platform services, applying best practices and contemporary technologies.
  • Ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to industry standards through comprehensive testing, code reviews, and documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Java Proficiency: Extensive experience in Java development, with in-depth knowledge of the language, its libraries, and best practices.
  • Database Expertise: Strong experience with Redis and PostgreSQL, a solid understanding of SQL, and familiarity with performance optimization strategies.
  • API Development: Proven experience in crafting REST API-driven solutions, with knowledge of OAuth and token management.
  • Performance Optimization: Experience in developing high-performance, high-availability systems, focusing on API-driven database access.
  • Observability: Familiarity with implementing observability in applications, including logging, telemetry, metrics, and health checks.
  • Containerization: Experience with container-based applications and deployment strategies is a plus.
  • Modernization Skills: Ability to learn and understand existing codebases and lead their modernization with a phased approach.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities and the capacity to resolve complex technical challenges.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • $130,000 - $150,000 Annual Salary
  • Annual Cash Bonus and Equity Options commensurate with the role level and experience
