Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform a full range of nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and/or treatment of patients.
  • Plan and perform imaging procedures to produce medical images for the diagnosis or treatment of patients, meeting the quality standards of the department as identified through professional literature and department protocol, policy and procedure.
  • Minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff in accordance with Radiation Safety Department policy, procedure, and guidelines as well as State, Federal, The Joint Commission, and other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Assess patients' needs related to comfort, hygiene, and range of motion and provide support accordingly.
  • Perform as a clinical and/or didactic instructor meeting the quality standards of the radiology education program(s) as identified through professional literature, department, and radiology education program(s) protocol, policy, and procedure.
Requirements:
  • Current Nuclear Medicine license through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board, or applicable state licensure where services will be performed.
  • Must be registered by the ARRT or NMTCB as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team.
  • Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient's condition, age, or ability.
  • Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
