Job Description:

As a Combat Medical Specialist in the Army National Guard, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the health of civilians following natural disasters and supporting the Soldiers who protect our nation daily.

Your responsibilities will include addressing the medical needs of civilians in the aftermath of emergencies, providing immediate care for injuries and illnesses sustained by Soldiers, and overseeing medical readiness, supplies, and equipment.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer emergency medical treatment to casualties on the battlefield.
  • Assist in both outpatient and inpatient care and treatment.
  • Conduct training for Soldiers on Combat Lifesaver and First Responder courses.
  • Manage the medical readiness of Soldiers, including medical supplies and equipment.

Skills Development:

Through this role, you will acquire essential skills such as:

  • Patient care techniques.
  • Advanced medical care practices.
  • Plaster casting techniques.

Your training will equip you with the expertise needed for a rewarding civilian career in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, or rehabilitation centers. Potential career paths include emergency medical technician, medical assistant, medication aide, or physician's assistant.

To qualify, Soldiers in this role must obtain certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians at the EMT level or higher.


Compensation and Training:

Instead of incurring costs for training, you will earn a salary while you learn. The Army National Guard provides a structured training program that includes:

  • 10 weeks of Basic Training to learn fundamental Soldiering skills.
  • 16 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) focused on patient care.

The duration of AIT may vary based on your chosen area of specialization, with a combination of classroom instruction and field practice.

Requirements:
  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard.
