Job Title: Experienced Engineering Technician

Are you an experienced engineering technician looking for a challenging role in a dynamic team? Serco North America is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Experienced Engineering Technician.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Experienced Engineering Technician to support our US Navy clients with equipment and C5ISR system installations. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating and assembling various electromechanical and electronic assemblies, applying appropriate safety techniques, and ensuring successful and safe work is performed on-board US Naval Ships and military installations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive initial instructions and equipment requirements as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions including troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions.
  • Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
  • Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed such as: constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment.
  • Gather and maintains specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performs computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.
  • Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operates and adjusts simple test equipment; records test data.

Requirements:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in electrical work in a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Shipboard experience.
  • Experience managing a crew of various trades people.
  • A combination of experience in the following areas:
    • Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors.
    • Read drawings (Tradesman level).
    • QCI instruct of lower techs.
    • Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP.
    • Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts.
    • Multipin competent.
    • Elec testing reqs, i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing.
    • Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge.
    • Reading drawings (Apprentice level).
    • Band/pack MCTs/RISE.
    • Layout & mount small equipment as needed.
    • Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter.
    • Safety: Actively participates in safety surveillances & walk-thrus.

Additional Requirements:

  • The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
  • The ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification.
  • The ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.
  • Familiarization with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
  • The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
  • Attention to safety, which is critical.
  • The ability and willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites.
  • The ability to relocate or travel to Chesapeake, VA.

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • An active DoD Secret clearance.
  • An OSHA Certification.
  • Fiber optic certification.
