Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs, the Supervisor of Academic Instruction will have the working title of Assistant Principal and has the responsibility to assist in the planning, development, and implementation of programs; on-site monitoring and evaluation of education programs; and reviewing educational processes and making recommendations on teaching resources and instructional methods.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of education programs
- Monitor and evaluate education programs on-site
- Review educational processes and make recommendations on teaching resources and instructional methods
- Assist with education teacher hiring, staff development, and program implementation
- Participate with educational and custodial staff in finding effective solutions to education programming issues
Possession of a valid standard administration or supervision credential or a credential or life diploma of equivalent authorization issued under authority of the Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing. Two years of administrative, supervisory, or academic teaching experience in an elementary or a secondary school system.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined a candidate does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.
Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by departmental annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
