Iron Worker

We are seeking a skilled Iron Worker to join our team at Wayne County Government. As an Iron Worker, you will be responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structural steel components for various projects.

• Coordinate and schedule work with Iron Worker Apprentices
• Work independently with minimal supervision
• Design and layout ornamental iron work
• Read specifications and blueprints to determine material requirements
• Analyze defects and make repairs to steel equipment
• Assemble boilers and install steel doors
• Install and maintain steel roll-up doors
• Connect and align structural steel members
• Hoist and position steel beams and columns
• Verify alignment and cut, bend, or weld steel pieces

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid State of Michigan Operators License
• Completion of Iron Worker Apprenticeship
• 1" unlimited certified welder
• Candidates must pass multiple background investigations

• Three years of commercial Iron Worker experience
