The City of Fairburn is seeking a skilled Electric Lineman to perform highly technical electrical work in the installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of overhead electrical lines, underground cables, electrical substations, and related electrical equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Climb power poles and steel towers to splice and make repairs to energized lines.
- Construct new overhead lines, setting poles, installing cross arms and brackets, stringing wire, and placing equipment such as transformers, switches, cut-outs, lightning arrestors, and insulators.
- Perform switching operations as a member of a line crew.
- Run new service lines from pole or transformer to consumer's premises.
- Reconstruct existing lines and related fittings.
- Phase out and cut in new circuits; pull slack out of primary and secondary wires; test poles, lines, and other facilities.
- Trim trees to clear wires.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical underground distribution equipment such as conduit duct systems, boxes, and vaults, switches, capacitors, transformers, street lights, and concrete foundations.
- Install electrical cable in ducts or direct burial; install cable risers; splice and terminate non-leaded high voltage cables.
- Drive trucks and operate associated equipment as assigned; assist in the instruction and training of other new crew members in techniques of the trade.
- Respond to emergency calls during hurricanes, inclement weather, or other emergency situations.
- High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 3-5 years of related electric utility experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
- Completion of a recognized three (3) year apprenticeship program as a Certified Lineman/Linewoman, required.
- Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check, and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Requires pre-employment medical evaluation and satisfactory results from a pre-employment alcohol and controlled substance testing in accordance with DOT federal regulations.
The work is moderate work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Work requires regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials.
Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.
