Job Summary:

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing various Nuclear Medicine procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. This role requires the utilization of radiopharmaceuticals, imaging procedures, and techniques to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patient medical problems across all age groups.

Key Responsibilities:

1. *Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Bryan Health, consistently upholding our core values.

2. Perform radionuclide procedures, including PET/CT and Spect/CT, under the authorization of a physician with a Radioactive Materials License issued by the Nebraska Health and Human Services Department of Radiological Health.

3. Prepare radiopharmaceuticals for administration by injection, ingestion, and inhalation, and apply EKG patches and cables as required.

4. Utilize sterile technique as necessary to maintain a safe working environment.

5. Optimize patient anatomy and function through proper positioning, isotope selection, and technical factor selection.

6. Perform venipuncture as needed.

7. Adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements for radiation control and practice radiation safety procedures, ensuring proper documentation for regulatory and accreditation purposes.

8. Assist the Radiologist in the therapeutic use of radioisotopes under prescribed safety conditions as applicable.

9. Competently operate all nuclear medicine equipment and support systems, including HIS, RIS, scheduling systems, and PACS, and perform and evaluate images for technical quality.

10. Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient care and procedures in accordance with established nuclear medicine standards and guidelines.

11. Maintain accurate records of isotopes used.

12. Complete quality control on scanning equipment and maintain a safe working environment.

13. Utilize department computer systems, files, and PACS to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.

14. Properly care for and image patients of all ages, maintaining patient confidentiality.

15. Coordinate exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care, communicating with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.

16. Handle telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, and questions with courtesy and accuracy.

17. Participate in the department's quality improvement plan as required.

18. Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment as necessary, notifying the supervisor of equipment problems and calling appropriate service vendors as needed.

19. Keep the work area properly supplied.

20. Access and administer drugs and biologicals pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.

21. Utilize AIDET communication and provide patient education to inform patients about procedures, minimizing patient anxiety.

Education and Experience:

A graduate from a nuclear medicine program or equivalency is required. Current certification or certification within three months of hire by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine is also required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
