Job Summary

As a Paramedic - Per Diem with Geisinger Health System, you will provide pre-hospital advanced life support services in accordance with the Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Services Act and consistent with related rules, regulations, and regional protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency calls within a defined geographic coverage area to enhance community advanced life support services.
  • Abide by all Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Laws.
  • Perform patient assessment and obtain historical data, conveying pertinent findings via two-way communications systems to the Medical Commander.
  • Effect patient care within the scope of practice and in accordance with regional triage, treatment, and transfer protocols.
  • Assume control position at the scene of pre-hospital patient encounters, providing appropriate direction to primary response personnel.
  • Conduct vehicle and equipment surveys at the onset of assigned tours and following patient encounters, participating in maintaining preparedness for response.
  • Perform routine equipment and vehicle checks at the change of each shift, using proper written documentation.
  • Complete written reports to detail the outcome of each dispatch, promptly submitting reports of each patient encounter at both destination facilities and base locations.
  • Participate in the orientation of newly hired personnel.
  • Provide preceptorships as assigned for new personnel, students accepted from affiliate agency programs, and volunteers.
  • Share in housekeeping duties with other crew members.
  • Assume responsibility for actively participating in patient safety improvement and management programs.
  • Identify processes or systems that could potentially lead to errors and adverse events.
  • Know and follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures applicable to assigned duties.
  • Participate in required organizational and departmental patient safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational patient safety.
  • Promptly report serious events and incidents in accordance with established hospital policy and procedure.
  • Coordinate with local Fire and Rescue personnel in conducting joint Fire and Emergency Medicine Services operations.

Certification(s) and License(s): Basic Life Support Certification, Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Operator, Valid Driver's License, Certified Paramedic
