Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technician to join our team at Brigham and Women's Hospital. As a Surgical Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, working closely with the surgical team to provide high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain the operating room environment, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and in good working order.
  • Assist the surgical team with patient positioning, draping, and other tasks as needed.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and follow established protocols for handling and processing surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Participate in the counting and verification of surgical instruments and supplies to ensure accuracy and prevent errors.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate and meet the needs of patients and surgeons, ensuring a seamless and efficient surgical experience.
Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program.
  • Knowledge of patient care and aseptic technique is essential.
  • Personal attributes such as good judgment, dependability, and initiative are necessary.
  • Proficiency in computer, phone, and communication skills required.
  • May not currently hold a valid nursing license.
  • Minimum of 2 years inpatient hospital experience preferred.
Certification

Surgical technologists hired after July 1, 2013 must maintain a certified surgical technologist credential unless the individual was employed as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility on or before July 1st, 2013.

Surgical technologist credential must be administered by a nationally recognized surgical technologist certifying body accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and recognized by the American College of Surgeons and Association of Surgical Technologists.

Skills and Abilities
  • Must have knowledge of septic and aseptic technique and be conscious of both at all times.
  • Must be aware of safety standards and hazards in the room.
  • Must have knowledge of patient positioning and assist circulator when necessary.
  • Must have knowledge of care and handling of surgical instruments.
  • Must have knowledge of care and safety hazards of all specialty equipment.
  • Understands the normal and recognizes deviation from normal within his/her specialty.
  • Demonstrates expertise on the use and maintenance of equipment and/or machinery required for area of specialty.
Work Environment

This is a part-time position with a rotating shift, every other weekend. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong communication and teamwork skills.
