Key Responsibilities- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
- Transfer and organize data gathered from paper formats via computer, recorders, or scanners.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
- Collect blood, saliva, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
- Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
- Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking notes, or completing medical information forms.
- Schedule appointments for patients.
- Inventory and order medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment.
- Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission.
- Operate electrocardiogram (EKG), or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests.
- Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by the physician.
- Set up and operate medical treatment and laboratory equipment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent or higher.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Work experience in a doctor's office or other medical office.
- Experience with office equipment, medical equipment used to obtain vitals, computer systems to enter data and process information.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual is a plus.
