The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services is seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse III to join our team at the Austin State Supported Living Center.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse III will provide advanced senior-level vocational nursing work, ensuring the care, treatment, and general welfare of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role involves planning, assigning, and supervising the work of others, working under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Administers medications and treatments orally, rectally, internally, or by injection.
  2. Performs technical nursing procedures according to facility and state regulations, including tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/jejunostomy care, wound care, and breathing treatments.
  3. Must be competent in the use of all medical equipment.
  4. Documents and reports pertinent observations, recognizing symptoms of illness and reporting accurately to the RN and/or Primary Care Provider.
  5. Collects data for the RN/Primary Care Provider, monitoring for signs and symptoms of illness.
  6. Leads, monitors, and oversees others who are monitoring individuals before, during, and after treatments and procedures.
  7. Serves as a preceptor to new LVNs, assisting with on-the-job training and providing feedback.
  8. Provides educational and safety training to other staff.
  9. Collects specimens for laboratory examination and conducts appropriate screening tests when requested by lab personnel.
  10. Participates in facility Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement initiatives.
  11. Participates in at least one facility committee as requested on a regular basis.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have nursing experience, knowledge of nursing procedures, techniques, principles, and processes used in providing individual care. They must possess the ability to apply principles and practices to assess, prevent, and treat disease processes, as well as utilize critical thinking skills to identify problems, assess the situation, and ensure resolution.

The successful candidate will also have the ability to work effectively in a team environment, communicate effectively, and train others. They must maintain current CPR certification and have the physical ability to safely perform CPR.
