Job Overview

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a skilled Veterinary Care Specialist to oversee the medical and surgical care of laboratory animals. As a key member of the research team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with animal welfare regulations and providing high-quality veterinary care.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory animal medicine and excellent interpersonal skills. You will work closely with researchers and staff to develop and implement effective clinical care programs and provide training to vivarium staff and investigators.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading research institution and contribute to the advancement of veterinary care in research settings.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary oversight for clinical care programs
• Develop and deliver training for vivarium staff and investigators
• Conduct veterinary reviews and consultations for IACUC protocols
• Oversee quality assurance and disease surveillance programs
• Serve as Attending Veterinarian and represent the institution at internal and external meetings

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (D.V.M/V.M.D.)
• Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state
• Minimum 5+ years' experience working in laboratory animal medicine
• Knowledgeable of applicable state, federal, and local laws regulating animal use in research
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
