Main Function:

The Clinical Dietitian delivers Medical Nutrition Therapy in the in-patient and out-patient settings, working closely with the Lead Clinical Dietitian and adhering to established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Deliver Medical Nutrition Therapy according to defined department policy, procedure, and protocols, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the American Dietetic Association's Nutrition Care Process.
  2. Conduct timely and appropriate nutrition assessments, analyzing and interpreting data with evidence-based standards.
  3. Document clear, concise, and per department standards.
  4. Identify and label problems, determine cause/contributing risk factors, cluster signs and symptoms/defining characteristics, and document per department standards.
  5. Plan nutrition intervention, formulate goals, and determine a plan of action, implementing nutrition intervention and documenting per department standards.
  6. Monitor progress, measure outcome indicators using department tools and reports, and provide nutrition guidance to all areas of the organization.
  7. Participate in committee activities, act as a mentor for students and dietetic interns, and maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences, or in-services.
  8. Meet annual competency and retraining requirements and perform other functions/duties as requested.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in clinical nutrition, food and nutrition, or a related area required.
  2. Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and a supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association required.
  3. Credentialing by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required within 6 months of hire.
  4. Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts within 6 months of hire required.
  5. One to three years of experience as a clinical dietitian in an acute care hospital preferred.
