Job Summary

As a valued member of the Emerson Hospital team, the Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in the perioperative nursing team. Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager, Operating Room, with line responsibility to the OR Charge Nurse and functioning under the supervision of a registered nurse, this position is responsible for performing direct and indirect perioperative nursing tasks for patients and assisting the anesthesia team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a registered nurse to serve as a technical subject matter expert for at least one surgical service and a preceptor for new scrub personnel.
  • Function as a scrub person and assist circulator roles, ensuring a smooth and efficient surgical process.
  • Develop and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Utilize excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices and advancements in surgical technology.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program required.
  • Minimum two years surgical technologist experience preferred.
  • Certificate of completion from Accredited Surgical Technology Program required.
  • BLS healthcare provider required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
