The Registered Nurse in the Nursery setting is responsible for delivering direct patient care to newborns. This role involves thorough assessment and tailored planning for each patient's needs. Effective communication with physicians, supervisors, and colleagues regarding any changes in the patient's clinical status is essential, including the interpretation of diagnostic results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and respond promptly to changes in patient conditions and treatment responses.
- Perform general nursing duties across all Maternal Child Health departments under appropriate supervision.
- When acting as the shift Charge Nurse, assign patient care tasks based on the skills and experience of nursing staff, ensuring the safety of both patients and staff.
- Assist in evaluating the performance and competencies of both temporary and permanent healthcare personnel.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to staff in all aspects of patient care and management.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives throughout all phases, from planning to implementation, and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse Licensure in Texas.
- A minimum of one year of recent experience in Newborn Nursery or Postpartum care is preferred.
- Certifications as specified by the Steward Certification document.
- Obtain breastfeeding certifications within six months of hire and maintain annually.
