Job Summary

The Akron Area YMCA is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our childcare staff, you will be responsible for creating a safe and nurturing environment for young children, promoting their physical, emotional, and cognitive development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Classroom Management: Establish a positive and engaging atmosphere in the classroom, ensuring the well-being and safety of all children.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise and support classroom staff and volunteers, recognizing their value and contributions to the team.
  • Environmental Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment, adhering to all health and safety standards.
  • Lesson Planning: Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that align with our curriculum and standards, incorporating activities that promote learning and development.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with parents, staff, and other stakeholders, ensuring seamless collaboration and information sharing.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for licensing, funding agencies, and other relevant parties.
  • Health and Safety: Attend to the health and well-being of children, responding to their needs and taking appropriate action as required.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; official college transcripts preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children, preferably in a childcare setting.
  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills; ability to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Certifications: Must complete required licensing trainings and Step Up trainings within the first 30 days of employment and 20 hours or more of Step Up trainings every 2 years.
