The nursing professionals in the Trauma & Surgical Intensive Care Unit (TSICU) are dedicated to providing exceptional care to patients suffering from traumatic injuries across Oregon, Southwest Washington, and Northern California. This unit also accommodates Emergency General Surgery patients, alongside those from Specialty Surgery Services such as Liver Transplant, EGS, ENT, OB/GYN, Plastics, and Orthopedics. The TSICU is renowned for its strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, where nurses, physicians, and other vital healthcare team members unite to ensure patients receive advanced, evidence-based treatment.

This position offers an array of benefits, including:

Function/Duties of Position

Eligible candidates with a minimum of one year of acute care hospital registered nurse experience may qualify for an $8,000 hiring bonus. Compensation ranges from $52.11 to $86.81 per hour, depending on RN degree and experience level.

As one of only two Level-1 Trauma Centers in Oregon, we handle a variety of complex cases, including penetrating traumas, liver transplants, and traumatic brain injuries. The Clinical Registered Nurse (RN) at OHSU provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities, and patient populations. The care delivered by the Clinical RN aligns with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN embodies the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor, as outlined in the Onsomble Model of the Professional Role. Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of current Critical Care experience
  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by CCNE, ACEN, or CNEA, obtained 30 days prior to the start date.
    • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program, obtained 30 days prior to the start date.
    • Associate degree Nurses must enroll in a BSN program within three years of hire and complete it within five years of hire.
    • Internal ONA applicants: Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.
    • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License.
    • BLS certification at the time of hire, issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
    • BLS certification must remain valid throughout orientation.
    • Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in trauma surgical care
  • CCRN or CNRN certification
Additional Details
  • Orientation Length for Experienced Nurses:
    • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for approximately one week.
    • Participation in either the Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience lasting from three days to 26 weeks, depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
