Job Summary:
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for conducting standardized qualitative and quantitative analyses to assess the physical, chemical, and microbiological properties of food products. This role ensures compliance with industry standards and regulations regarding various quality factors, including color, texture, nutrients, and microbiological content. The Supervisor will maintain accurate records and databases, and perform laboratory preparation activities to provide essential technical information to relevant personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Receive, log, and store laboratory samples efficiently.
2. Prepare standard solutions and reagents for microbiological and chemical testing.
3. Maintain an adequate stock of laboratory materials.
4. Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
5. Monitor product quality to ensure adherence to established standards and specifications.
6. Perform microbiological analyses of food ingredients and finished products using established methods.
7. Enter sample and test data into computer databases to verify compliance with customer service standards.
8. Compile test results and prepare visual representations such as graphs and reports.
9. Train QA technicians and other personnel in relevant laboratory procedures.
10. Conduct audits or other quality assurance functions on the production floor as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Strong understanding of arithmetic, algebra, and statistics.
- Ability to apply scientific principles to solve problems.
- Experience in conducting tests and inspections to evaluate quality and performance.
Education & Experience:
- Two years of college or an Associate Degree in food microbiology or a related field is preferred, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
- High School Diploma is required.
- Previous experience in food manufacturing is preferred.
Preferences:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Prior experience in QA or laboratory technician roles is advantageous.
Requirements:
- Must possess the ability to read, write, and comprehend English effectively.
