Carpenter Job Description

The Carpenter's role is to provide an exceptional finished product representing the skills and capabilities held by the company. To accurately cut, fabricate, and install wooden and other structures according to specifications, working in diverse settings.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for adhering to all Company and Project safety programs, policies, and procedures as well as all Federal, State, and local safety codes and regulations.
  • Focusing on finer details of woodworking.
  • Measuring, marking, and arranging materials to established layout based on blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
  • Calculating parts, components, materials, and supplies requirements.
  • Cutting and shaping components by determining appropriate methods for cutting, shaping, and assembling parts.
  • Planning layout and altering designs as needed.
  • Setting-up and operating equipment (including power saws, sanders, routers, grinders) to securely build assigned projects.
  • Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive.
  • Trimming parts using hand tools and measuring tools.
  • Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed.
Additional Responsibilities for Level II
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully grasp requirements.
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.
  • Advanced techniques with woodworking machineries like Bandsaw, drill press, and bench grinder.
  • Ability to cut, fit, and then install the wooden material according to specific measurements making sure corners are crisp, joints are tight, and moldings are level.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills and Attributes
  • Proven experience as carpenter.
  • Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials.
  • Good knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials.
  • Good mechanical and technical skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have good planning and time-management skills.
  • A personal values system demonstrably consistent with organizational values.
  • Ability to be punctual and dependable.
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • Need to have basic carpentry hand tools for use with position.
Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a warehouse setting. Work environment will change often and will require consistent awareness of surroundings and potential dangers to themselves and others.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. with assistance from others or lifting devices from floor to waist and waist to floor.
  • Ability to walk, stand, hear, see to reasonably perform essential job functions.
  • Abilities include drag, pull, lift, push, bend, kneel, climb, overhead work, torque, and other repetitive motions.
