Naval Cadet Corps Instructor

Roanoke County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated individual to assume the position of Naval National Defense Cadet Corps (NNDCC) Instructor at William Byrd High School.

Qualified candidates should be highly driven Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard commissioned officers within the ranks of W-2 to O-6, or non-commissioned officers ranging from E-6 to E-9. This role is designed for a solo instructor overseeing a unit comprising 50 cadets for a contract period of 10 months. The unit engages in various activities such as Color Guard, Orienteering, and Athletic teams, with plans to introduce Air Rifle and Drone teams in the upcoming school year. Candidates must be prepared to work outside of regular school hours, including some weekends, to support cadets and assist in both school and community events, following an A/B Block schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leading the unit and providing guidance on program requirements
• Delivering the established Naval Science curriculum
• Training cadets in military drill
• Participating in faculty committees and fulfilling additional responsibilities
• Mentoring students
• Supervising cadets and ensuring appropriate conduct
• Organizing extracurricular activities for the unit
• Attending Navy-sponsored training sessions
• Fostering professional relationships with school personnel
• Recruiting new cadets
• Executing any other duties as assigned by school administration

Qualifications:

Candidates must fulfill the criteria for a JROTC instructor as outlined in NSTC M-.1B Regulations for Citizenship Development (RCD).
