Job Summary

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality anesthesia care to patients undergoing various medical procedures. As a key member of the healthcare team, the CRNA is responsible for developing and implementing anesthesia care plans, providing a full scope of anesthesia services, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and well-being.

Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-anesthesia assessments and evaluations of patients.
  • Review laboratory and diagnostic studies to inform anesthesia care decisions.
  • Obtain and document informed consent for anesthesia and related services.
  • Select, obtain, and administer pre-procedural medications and adjuvant treatments.
  • Determine, prepare, and apply non-invasive monitors, supplies, and drugs for anesthesia and pain management services.
  • Select, order, obtain, and administer analgesic and anesthetic agents, adjuvant drugs, fluids, or blood products necessary for anesthesia services.
  • Perform airway management, including emergency management and securement.
  • Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia by evaluating patient response and selecting, ordering, and administering medications, fluids, and ventilatory support.
  • Initiate and administer post-anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support of the cardiovascular system.
  • Initiate and administer respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the post-anesthesia period.
  • Evaluate patient response to anesthesia and procedures performed, and initiate corrective action as needed.
  • Provide post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care.
  • Discharge patients from the post-anesthesia care unit according to facility criteria and protocols.
  • Implement pain management modalities.
  • Manage emergency situations by assessing, stabilizing, and determining patient disposition, including providing airway management, administering emergency drugs and fluids, and instituting basic and advanced cardiac life support techniques.
  • Provide patient and caregiver education.
  • Perform venous puncture to obtain blood specimens when indicated.
  • Use an interdisciplinary approach, including consultation or referral to the physician of record and other clinicians as needed.
Quality Assurance and Patient Safety
  • Support patient safety and well-being by participating in facility, department, or unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Deliver didactic and clinical education to staff.
  • Participate in facility committees and related activities.
  • Act as an interdepartmental liaison.
  • Initiate action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  • Report adverse events and near miss situations to management authority and the Site Lead CRNA.
  • Identify possible risks in processes, procedures, and devices, and communicate to those in charge.
  • Maintain confidential records and comply with HIPAA requirements to protect PHI.
  • Implement and adhere to InSite and affiliated facilities policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Licensed as a current and active Registered Nurse in the state of California, complying with all applicable state statutory and regulatory requirements concerning CRNAs.
  • Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor.
  • Certified or Recertified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Insurable by a medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by the State of California and InSite Digestive Health Care.
Position Requirements
  • Sustain the ability to perform clinically as a nurse anesthetist in the facility setting on a consistent basis.
  • Seek ongoing professional education and maintain current licensure requirements for CRNA practice privileges within InSite and assigned clinical locations.
  • Skill Maintenance and Professional Development expectations include operating, using, and interpreting data from a wide variety of equipment to perform anesthesia care, as well as necessary perioperative or operating/procedure room care to support patient safety and well-being.
  • Sustain and incorporate professional verbal and written communication skills required to effectively collaborate with clinical staff and related disciplines.
  • Understand the principles of growth and development over the life span, assess data reflective of the patient's population-specific and age-specific requirements, and provide individualized care.
  • Implement current and evidence-based practice modalities, relevant infection prevention and control techniques.
