Cardiac Catheterization Nurse

Overview:
The RN in the Cath Lab plays a crucial role in assisting physicians during cardiac catheterization procedures aimed at diagnosing and treating cardiovascular conditions. Cath Lab nurses are primarily employed in healthcare facilities such as hospitals and outpatient clinics. Following procedures, they are responsible for administering medications and monitoring patients for any adverse reactions or signs of complications.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Evaluate and prepare patients for cardiac interventions, including monitoring vital signs, reviewing laboratory results, and ensuring proper consent is obtained.

2. Support physicians during various cardiac procedures, including catheterizations, angioplasties, and pacemaker placements.

3. During procedures, continuously monitor and document patients' vital signs, ready to act in case of emergencies.

4. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of cardiac equipment essential for catheterization and possess the ability to interpret EKGs and recognize critical cardiac rhythms.

5. Administer IV medications as required and provide reassurance to patients and their families regarding procedures and recovery expectations.

6. Communicate effectively with both patients and their families, addressing concerns and relaying important information to the medical team.
7. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation in patient records.
8. Ensure that all necessary supplies, including medications and emergency equipment, are adequately stocked and organized.

Qualifications:
1. Valid RN license with a good standing record.
2. At least one year of recent experience in a Cath Lab setting.
3. Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory; TNCC certification is preferred.
