About the Role

Munson Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care in the clinic and hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ambulatory Setting:
    • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history and physical examinations, surgery consultation, routine office follow-up care, and post-operative care.
    • Order diagnostic tests, such as echocardiograms, stress tests, x-rays, ECGs, laboratory tests, and interpret test results.
    • Prescribe pharmacologic and other therapeutic treatments for patient health.
    • Perform therapeutic procedures, as needed, including post-procedure wound care.
  • Inpatient:
    • Admit patients to the hospital, perform daily rounds, write orders, daily progress notes, discharge summaries, etc.
    • Provide pre- and post-operative education and teaching to patients and families.
    • Prescribe pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies.
    • Order and interpret diagnostic imaging and tests/labs.
    • Coordinate care provided by multiple specialists, including surgeons, hospitalist providers, cardiology, urology, nursing staff, etc.
    • Diagnose and manage patient care.
  • OR 1st Assist:
    • Assist surgeons in the operating room daily with scheduled and add-on surgical cases.
    • Assist OR coordinators with correct case card selection, supply, and equipment needs.
    • Assist OR circulating RN and surgical tech with appropriate supplies and equipment to enhance efficiency.
    • Manage pre- and post-operative order placement.
Requirements
  • Education/Training:
    • Master's Degree in Nursing or a Master's in Physician Assistant studies.
  • Work Experience:
    • General Surgery experience is preferred but not required.
  • Certification, Licensure, Registration:
    • State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required.
