Job Summary

The EMS Instructor will teach courses covering the content and essential skills to provide emergency medical assistance in outpatient and emergency settings. The instructor will prepare students to respond in various types of emergencies that require urgent medical attention, assess emergency situations, provide care that can save a life, and transport patients to a hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction to students in accordance with the State of California Code of Regulations Title 22 relating to EMT training, certification, and scope of practice, as well as the Local County Office of Emergency Medical Services Policies and Procedures.
  • Effective classroom instruction that covers all the techniques of emergency medical care and transportation of the sick and injured within the responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Evaluate students' progress in attaining program knowledge and skills.
  • Supervise and monitor student use of equipment.
  • Administer oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Participate in curriculum and program reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security measures during periods of instruction.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry requirements, as well as University policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Maintain a strong emphasis on student-centered learning.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Experience teaching in an EMS/EMT program preferred.
  • Completion of National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) Level 1 Instructor Course, or State Fire Marshall Instructor 1A and 1B training preferred.
  • Experience with teaching adult learners required.
  • Knowledge of the State of California Code of Regulations Title 22 relating to EMT training, certification and scope of practice and the Local County Office of Emergency Medical Services Policy and Procedures as related to EMT practice required.
  • Certified Nationally and/or in the State of California as an EMT, Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Physician's Assistant or Physician required.
  • Current CPR certification (AHA-Healthcare Provider) required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in an EMS/healthcare clinical setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with lab instruction utilizing patient-based simulations and scenarios preferred.

Location and Travel

Onsite at MCAS Miramar Military Base; Instructor must be able to obtain a military base pass which may require background investigation.

Travel required as necessary, may include program meetings.
