Surgical Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team at Northwell Health. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in the perioperative team, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of surgical care to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in turnover activities and room setup for each surgical procedure.
- Assist with surgical setup, including the connection of suction, electrical cords, power cables, and electrocautery.
- Use supplies in a cost-effective manner.
- Assist with room turnover and maintenance of the operating room environment.
- Break down the operating room following each surgical procedure.
- Assist with ensuring an adequate supply of stock for patient care.
- Effectively communicate with all members of the team regarding the need for special equipment and supplies.
- Communicate and document implementation of care, according to policy.
- Collaborate with the surgeon to ensure proper labeling of all specimens from the surgical field.
- Ensure appropriate and safe use of equipment and instrumentation pre, intra, and post-operatively; second-assist as needed under the direction of the surgeon.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the procedure and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
- Correctly hold retractors as prescribed by the supervising physician.
- Anticipate the need for surgical equipment and supplies, obtain the same.
- Check and/or troubleshoot equipment for proper functioning prior to use; appropriately remove malfunctioning equipment from use.
- Perform sponge, sharp, and instrument counts with the RN according to policy.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Graduate of an Operating Room Technician Program, required.
- Successful completion from a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologist, and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), required.
- Minimum of one (1) year OR Technician experience, preferred.
This position is eligible for a 10K Student Tuition Repayment Program. The salary range for this position is $33.47-$46.22/hour.
