Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Engineer to join our team at The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. As an Entry-Level Engineer, you will play a critical role in managing all aspects of construction projects, working closely with project owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and site subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate work with project stakeholders, including project owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and site subcontractors.
  • Estimating and Bidding: Manage estimating and bidding processes, tracking costs to manage project budget.
  • Design and Field Issues: Resolve and clarify design issues, identify and resolve field issues and change orders.
  • Contract Administration: Write contracts and purchase orders using company boilerplate language to document all ordered work, schedules, projected costs, change orders, and technical specifications.
  • Project Scheduling: Implement project schedules, including each task associated with project completion.
  • Quality Control: Ensure work is completed in accordance with quality standards and contract specifications.
  • Documentation: Document the technical, financial, and personnel aspects of each project.
  • Review and Approval: Review project drawings, specifications, submittals, and change orders, and review each trade's work progress with respect to each project phase.
  • Field Support: Provide field support to construction superintendents to help ensure contract compliance, quality control, and maintenance of the site.
  • Project Tracking: Track project phase completion against milestones.
  • Safety Management: Set expectations for managing a safe work site.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management, Construction Technology.
  • Knowledge: General knowledge of safety regulations, ANSI standards, local and state building codes, environmental codes, availability of industry-specific codes and guidelines.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Suretrak, Primavera (or other scheduling software).
  • Business Acumen: Knowledge of basic business principles sufficient to project and monitor expenses.
  • Communication: Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, product/material installation instructions, and engineering/architectural drawings.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Experience: Experience with construction projects, mechanical/electrical systems, building materials, building mechanics, or working with craft workers.
