Position Title : Facilities Maintenance Lead

Shift: 10:00pm - 7:00am, Sunday - Thursday

Location: Newport News, VA

Overview: The Facilities Maintenance Lead will report directly to the Assistant Maintenance Manager. This role is situated in a collaborative office environment alongside other shift maintenance leaders. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the safe and efficient daily operations of a food production facility. The incumbent will serve as a technical resource and provide guidance to the departments of Quality Assurance, Research and Development, Production, and Warehousing. This is a dynamic setting focused on achieving a harmonious balance between the manufacturing floor and administrative tasks. Within this unit, the Facilities Maintenance Lead oversees and directs the activities of 8 maintenance technicians.

Key Responsibilities and Skills Required for the Facilities Maintenance Lead:
  • Prioritize safety; the Facilities Maintenance Lead should strive to maintain the incident rate at or below the industry standard.
  • Organize the daily Preventative Maintenance (PM) or Work Order (WO) assignments for technicians.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel regarding hours, time off, floor coverage, role assignments, motivation, and performance on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Mentor, inspire, and provide on-the-job training to maintenance staff to enhance employee engagement and performance. Conduct annual performance evaluations punctually.
  • Ensure over ninety (90) percent accuracy in maintenance inventory through daily parts requisition and quarterly inventory audits.
  • Manage the monthly budget for Miscellaneous Shop Materials, Repair & Maintenance Materials, and Hourly Indirect Overtime.
  • Maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) with an error rate of less than 1.5% in the Work Order module. An error is defined as a completed task that remains active, overdue, or lacks status updates.
  • Aim for a plant daily start-up success rate of 90% with minimal maintenance-related failures. For instance, in a typical week with 20 start-ups, there should be fewer than 2 failures due to maintenance issues.
  • Assist in ensuring that the plant production rate meets or exceeds 3800 lbs/line hour.
Qualifications for Facilities Maintenance Lead:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline is preferred.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in manufacturing maintenance or a similar maintenance environment.
  • Proficiency in low voltage electrical distribution, electrical controls including PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical skills, with the ability to interpret blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), PLC software applications, technical writing, leadership, problem-solving, and budget management.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment mechanical aptitude assessment.
  • Attain a passing score (80% or higher) on an American Institute of Baking "Maintenance Engineering Course" within 24 months of hire.
  • Capability to obtain a passport for potential travel if required.
  • Valid US driver's license and transportation for commuting to various plant locations.
Working Environment / Physical Requirements of Facilities Maintenance Lead:
  • The work environment may expose the employee to high noise levels, food-grade dust and odors, moving and vibrating machinery, heavy equipment, powered industrial vehicles, heights, traffic, anhydrous ammonia, oil, and electricity. Adverse weather conditions such as extreme cold, heat, rain, snow, dust, smoke, and odors may also be encountered.
  • Allergens present in the facility include fish, shellfish, nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, milk, and coconut.
  • While performing the duties of this role, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, listen, reach with hands and arms, and bend. The employee must use hands to handle, operate, and feel objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally, the employee may need to operate a motor vehicle.
  • The employee must possess sufficient visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and digital camera, as well as other office and position-related equipment. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
