Histology Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Histology Technician/Histotechnologist to join our team at UVA Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing histological procedures to aid in diagnosis, research, and instruction.
Key Responsibilities- Tissue Sample Preparation: Prepare tissue samples for routine microscopic analysis, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Laboratory Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and operate laboratory equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and procedures, demonstrating knowledge of quality, safety, and compliance programs.
- Problem-Solving and Communication: Investigate, document, communicate, and resolve needs, problems, or complaints in a timely and professional manner.
- Support and Clinical Activities: Perform area-specific support and clinical activities, providing exceptional patient care and service.
- Education: Clinical education in a Histology Technician School (HT) program accredited by NAACLS or 1 year of experience.
- Experience: 1 year of experience in a Histology Laboratory.
- Licensure: ASCP or equivalent certification within 24 months of hire.
The job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequent travel, bending/stooping, and repetitive motion. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are essential, as well as attention to detail and the ability to write legibly. The ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs is also required. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
