POSITION SUMMARY FOR ADVANCED PRACTICE PSYCHIATRIC NURSE
The Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse is responsible for delivering comprehensive psychiatric care to a diverse group of patients. This role requires a compassionate, resilient, and highly skilled professional capable of navigating unique challenges to provide outstanding mental health support. The nurse will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, medical doctors, and correctional staff, to create and implement tailored treatment plans that address the complex mental health needs of the patient population.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ADVANCED PRACTICE PSYCHIATRIC NURSE
- Conducts assessments and consultations to manage and stabilize urgent issues.
- Provides guidance and follow-up to behavioral health staff regarding the necessity of psychotropic medications.
- Reviews treatment plans for patients in behavioral health observation units and those receiving medication.
- Engages in case conferences and treatment planning for patients undergoing behavioral health treatment.
- Delivers behavioral health evaluations, assessments, and follow-up care.
- Collaborates with behavioral health staff on patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Participates in various treatment modalities as required by the behavioral health service.
- Engages in behavioral health and medical rounds as assigned.
- Delegates tasks to team members as necessary.
- Facilitates group sessions on behavioral health observation units, including medication compliance discussions.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Supervising Psychiatrist.
- Maintains all required credentials, including CPR certification.
- Attends training and meetings as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ADVANCED PRACTICE PSYCHIATRIC NURSE
- Must hold a valid Nurse Practitioner license in the state of employment.
- Demonstrated clinical competence and leadership abilities, including decision-making, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience in a behavioral health setting; correctional experience is preferred.
