Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Educator is a key member of the Memorial Healthcare team, responsible for staff development and education. In collaboration with the Leadership Team and under the direction of the Manager of Education, this role facilitates the delivery of quality patient care and improves nursing practice.

This goal is achieved through participation in educational programming, patient and family education, nursing orientation and competency, and other programs as needed. The Clinical Nurse Educator also represents nursing in interdisciplinary projects and assists with operational aspects of education as assigned.

Striving for superior performance, this role consistently provides a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as contributing to the patient and family experience.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  1. Organize and manage nursing orientation and competency programs to ensure completion as planned, meeting the needs of the institution.
  2. Assist in conducting hospital-wide education programs, competency validations, and updates to orientation and competency materials.
  3. Communicate with directors, managers, orientees, faculty, staffing office, and Human Resources as necessary.
  4. Continuously improve the orientation and competency program to meet the needs of the department and orientees.
  5. Provide annual performance appraisals of unit staff and conduct first-level employee coaching and counseling as directed.
  6. Participate in recruitment and retention activities.
  7. Participate in the review and development of nursing policies, procedures, and protocols.
  8. Participate in patient and employee safety committees and initiatives.
  9. Assist in program development and delivery as needed.
  10. Utilize e-learning solutions for providing and recording educational programs.
  11. Provide guidance in content development as requested.
Departmental and Additional Job Responsibilities

Demonstrate job-related aspects of patient safety to ensure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.

Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's and division's policies and procedures.

Demonstrate knowledge of and support hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
