Job Overview
Clerk I at the Elkhart Public Library: A Supporting Role in Community Engagement
The Elkhart Public Library is seeking a skilled Clerk I to join our team as a key player in delivering exceptional customer service and supporting library operations. This role involves serving patrons, managing library materials, and contributing to a welcoming environment for all visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve patrons by issuing library cards, maintaining registrations, handling transactions related to library materials, and assisting in collection development
- Create a helpful, welcoming atmosphere for all library visitors
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required

Accountability
- Creates and maintains patron accounts
- Circulates materials: checks in and out; pulls and routes holds, etc.
- Handles financial transactions at the circulation desk and public copiers
- Performs opening and closing tasks as assigned
- Selects materials and/or performs collection maintenance as assigned, with oversight from the appropriate collection manager(s) and approval of the department head

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Prior library experience is preferred

Physical Demands
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally reach with hands and arms
- Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds
