Job Summary

Polytek Development Corp. is a leading manufacturer of mold making and casting materials. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chemist with a strong background in latex formulations to join our rapidly expanding company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Latex Formulation: Develop and implement thorough understanding of mixing and processing requirements to make liquid latex for mold making in adhesive applications, including latex evaporation processes.
  • Quality Control: Provide daily direction and communication to the Quality Control Technicians, including hiring, firing, performance reviews, time off requests, timesheets, and training.
  • Research and Development: Design and perform laboratory experiments to develop specific chemistry systems as directed by the VP of R&D.
  • Experimentation: Perform laboratory experiments independently to arrive at a goal stated by the VP of R&D.
  • Record Keeping: Record and maintain all lab work in a lab notebook.
  • QC Testing: Assist with QC tests as needed.
  • Production Support: Interact with production personnel on pilot batches and production problems.
  • Sales Support: Interact with sales personnel to understand existing product issues/uses and product development needs.
  • Customer Support: Interact with customers and assist with technical support questions and inquiries.
  • Lab Maintenance: Keep laboratory work area neat and uncluttered.
  • Chemical Storage: Organize and maintain chemical sample storage racks.
  • Safety Protocols: Understand hazards of chemicals through company provided training and reading MSDSs and labels.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Wear proper personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves and safety glasses) and follow all safety rules.
  • Safety Reporting: Report safety concerns immediately to your supervisor.
  • Team Collaboration: Work within cross-functional teams to enable new product development project success.
  • Troubleshooting: Assist with troubleshooting, application development, and commercialization.
Physical Demands
  • Standing and walking for full shift.
  • Occasionally lift full 5-gallon pails (40 lb).
  • Frequently lift 1-gallon pails (8 lb).
  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs.
  • Ability to operate specialized lab equipment.
  • Must wear job-specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for entirety of shift.
  • Talk, hear, and vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or higher.
  • 5-10 years of experience with latex formulation.
  • 2-3 years of management experience, a plus.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
  • Self-motivated.
