Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Specimen Accessioning Coordinator to join our team at Johns Hopkins HealthCare. As a key member of our pathology department, you will be responsible for receiving and processing specimens, verifying patient identification, and ensuring accurate documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and verify pathology specimens, ensuring proper patient identification and documentation
  • Enter patient and specimen information into the Pathology database and/or assigned LIS, generating unique accession numbers and labels
  • Assign specimens to the correct prosector and Attending Pathologist, ensuring timely delivery
  • Receive stat calls from operating rooms for intraoperative consults and alert house and support staff
  • Assist with creating intraoperative consult report templates and filling out requests for special studies
  • Investigate and correct discrepant/problem specimens, ensuring highest quality and patient safety
Requirements
  • High School diploma with coursework emphasis on biological science
  • Successful completion of a Medical Terminology Training course (college-level course preferred)
  • Equivalent of 3 months surgical pathology accessioning experience may be substituted for the medical terminology course
  • One year in a patient care related/medical data entry or specimen accessioning position
