Operational Cook

This position is responsible for the preparation, cooking, and service of large quantity meals in accordance with set menus for the residents of the New Mexico State Veterans Home.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and serve resident's meals in a manner that conserves nutritive value, flavor, and appearance.
- Accurately measure, prepare, and cook ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Take-in food deliveries from vendors, inventory food items, and conduct/assist meal service to the residents.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Experience working in a long-term care facility.
- Experience as a Cook or Food Service Specialist.
- Experience utilizing recipes and serving food to residents of a hospital or institution.
- Experience cleaning and sanitizing kitchen, utensils, and equipment.
This position will perform work in a kitchen setting with exposure to high and low temperatures from ovens and freezers. The incumbent may be exposed to minor physical harm such as cuts from knives, kitchen machinery, and other kitchen equipment.
Employment Requirements- Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Safe Food Handling Certificate.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico.
- Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.
- Must sign and observe confidentiality agreement.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
