The Data Scientist/Junior Data Scientist position focuses on the development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of machine learning models aimed at optimizing the operations of departments that interact with students.
Location:
This role is primarily based in Albany, NY, with the possibility of remote work. Remote employees will be required to travel occasionally for meetings, conferences, and professional development. Availability during standard work hours (8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Eastern Time) is expected. The University will provide necessary equipment, such as a laptop and docking station, while employees must ensure a suitable workspace for virtual meetings, free from interruptions and noise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and refine predictive and statistical models to enhance productivity, efficiency, and student outcomes.
- Create scalable analytical solutions that empower business users at various levels to enhance their work effectiveness.
- Analyze, transform, and integrate data from university systems and public sources to address statistical, machine learning, and data mining challenges.
- Effectively communicate model results and analytical insights through intuitive data visualization and reporting tools.
- Collaborate with institutional research and business analytics teams on interdisciplinary projects.
- Engage with other analytics teams to provide data science solutions to customers.
Qualifications:
To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are essential:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering Management, or a related quantitative discipline.
- A minimum of two years of experience in analytics, including proficiency in R/Python, SQL, visualization tools (such as Power BI, Qlik View/Sense, and Tableau), and machine learning models.
- A strong passion for leveraging analytics and data to impact higher education positively.
- A commitment to supporting the success of adult learners.
