Job Summary
The Cost Estimator plays a vital role in supporting the administrative functions of ongoing projects. This position involves analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare material and subcontractor take-offs for bidding purposes. The Estimator collaborates with project teams and engages with vendors and personnel from various departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate precise take-offs for materials, subcontracting, and production items for various projects.
- Obtain project plans and documentation.
- Prepare and submit competitive bids.
- Draft subcontracts and purchase orders as needed.
- Provide bid information for tracking, enhance the bidding process, and maintain job files for operations.
- Keep job logs updated and assist the Project Manager with requests, including soliciting bid proposals from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Support the project management team with logistics planning and communication with subcontractors, suppliers, and project personnel.
- Monitor Purchase Orders and Subcontracts for compliance and compile monthly financial reports, including accruals and cash flow projections.
- Assist with project site audits, data tracking, and comparative analysis.
- Coordinate with Project Management and Supply Chain to secure necessary Purchase Orders and Subcontracts.
- Ensure the latest drawings are issued to relevant parties for project execution.
- Maintain logs for critical materials and support the project management team with Submittals and Requests for Information (RFI).
- Review and process vendor and subcontractor invoicing while updating tracking tools.
- Create project pay applications in line with contractual and accounting guidelines.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Management is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in underground utilities.
- Familiarity with Bid2Win Software and knowledge of utility construction methods and specifications.
- Experience with CPM Scheduling and estimating contract changes.
- Proficient in job cost accounting and tracking activities using Viewpoint.
- Strong technical skills with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present information effectively.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve practical problems.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and excellent organizational skills.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers and phones. The role is primarily sedentary, with occasional filing or lifting of up to 50 pounds required.
