Job Summary:

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Northwell Health, you will play a critical role in performing ultrasound exams to aid in patient diagnosis. You will utilize your independent judgment to apply non-ionizing, high-frequency ultrasonic waves for diagnosis of disease, collaborating with clinicians to ensure the appropriateness of studies and performing related administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepares patients for ultrasound exams, positioning them on examination tables according to departmental standard operating procedures and explaining procedures in layman's terms to relieve patient anxiety.

Obtains pertinent imaging and diagnostic reports required for correlation with ultrasound exams, consulting with referring physicians regarding patient history and determining appropriate ultrasound exams.

Sets up equipment to administer particular exams in a timely fashion, using settings on machines to assure accurate results and exercising technical judgment.

Recognizes the significance of structures visualized in the oscilloscope, differentiates artifacts from normal or pathologic processes, and determines the need for more extensive evaluations beyond preliminary instructions.

Observes patients during entire examinations, recognizing and reporting any changes in patient condition and/or motor abnormality complaints in accordance with procedures.

Documents image details and labels studies, maintains records and logs exams performed, and performs minor repairs and frequent calibration checks and adjusts ultrasound equipment as necessary.

Requirements:

Vocational or technical school diploma required.

Current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed.

1-3 years of technical experience required.

Salary:

The salary range for this position is $45-$85/hour.
