POSITION: Educational Specialist
ROLE SUMMARY: The Educational Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the academic and personal development of students with special needs. This position requires adherence to the special education laws and regulations in California, ensuring a nurturing and inclusive environment for all students. The Educational Specialist collaborates closely with parents, faculty, board members, and community partners to create a supportive educational atmosphere.
REPORTS TO: School Administrator (Principal)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the Special Education program, including scheduling meetings, staff training, and managing program requirements.
- Coordinate services for students identified for special education, ensuring all documentation and compliance with regulations are maintained.
- Manage cases for students undergoing evaluation for special education services.
- Engage in Student Study Team (SST) processes to develop tailored educational plans.
- Organize and implement support services to enhance student success.
- Provide guidance to staff and parents to facilitate student achievement.
- Integrate special education services with general education programs for enrolled students.
- Develop and coordinate classroom support strategies, including behavioral and academic assistance.
- Prepare for and participate in meetings related to student services and professional development.
- Maintain accurate records of student services and modifications.
- Conduct assessments as required by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.
- Ensure compliance with all timelines related to special education services.
- Contribute to faculty collaboration and engage in ongoing professional development.
- Facilitate academic intervention programs for all students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a valid California credential in Special Education relevant to program needs.
- Strong communication and multitasking abilities.
- Proficient in relationship-building and problem-solving.
- Thorough understanding of State and Federal regulations governing Special Education.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Flexibility and a team-oriented mindset.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
- Physical demands may include lifting, walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods.
