Industrial Electrician Overview

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develops schematics indicating the placement of wiring and equipment or adheres to existing diagrams to ensure that concealed wiring is set up prior to the installation of walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Utilizes tools such as hacksaws, pipe threaders, measuring devices, and conduit benders to measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduits.
  • Assists in pulling wiring through conduits, often working alongside a helper.
  • Joins wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with tools, twisting or soldering them together, and securing with tape or terminal caps.
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power devices using hand tools.
  • Installs control and distribution devices, including switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, securing them with screws or bolts using hand or power tools.
  • Links power cables to machinery and installs grounding leads.
  • Tests circuit continuity to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using instruments such as ohmmeters, batteries, buzzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Monitors the operation of installed systems to identify hazards and determine the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Disassembles and repairs malfunctioning electrical equipment or systems.
  • Handles the loading, transportation, and unloading of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Possesses the ability to distinguish colors accurately.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) is essential.
  • Adheres to all safety and project regulations, performing additional duties as required.
Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent may be required, along with several years of experience in the electrical field or a related area. The candidate should have a solid understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the electrical trade. The role typically involves following instructions and established guidelines under direct supervision. Primary job functions do not usually necessitate independent judgment, and the position generally reports to a supervisor or manager.
